Located here at the corner of Belding Avenue and Carson Street, south of downtown, the President and Owner of the Boston Red Sox, John I. Taylor saw to it in the spring of 1909 that a baseball field was built primarily for the use of his team. The field was named Majestic Field after the hotel of the same name that was the Red Sox headquarters during their stay in Hot Springs.
The 1912 Boston Red Sox used to workout in front of hundreds of fans here with what some consider the best outfield in baseball history. Tris Speaker, Harry Hooper, and Duffy Lewis roamed the wide expanse of the Majestic Park outfield, and later they went on to a World Series championship.
During the late 1930’s and 1940’s Rogers Hornsby conducted his famous baseball school on this field, where Cardinals Hall of Fame pitcher Jay Hanna "Dizzy" Dean was an instructor and in 1935 it was renamed Dean Field in his honor.
